I’m not known for my love for Star Trek: Enterprise, but the theme tune was a brave choice and I admire that.
Writing a novel took less bravery, but it has certainly been a long road. I started on a wet Tuesday in October, hunkered down in a holiday rental near Aberporth in Wales, dreaming that I would finally get past the two chapter barrier for the first time.
I was writing for myself, and because it was fun, but as I explored the world I had created and the characters that I put into it, I stopped thinking about the page targets, and just about creating something that was living…at least in my mind.
It was January when fate suddenly gave me the chance to spend more time on the book and less on work. A lot less on work. In fact, I lost my job.
Suddenly, writing The Terminus Of All Things (or Endland as it was still called at that point) became a focus, a way of not obsessing about the things I really should have been worrying about, like an income. I googled ‘how to publish a book’ and the rest is history.
As I write, we are still a long was from publishing. The book is out with a wonderful group of beta readers who are giving me honest and helpful feedback. I’ve started growing an audience through my social accounts. I even found time to learn about self-publishing by bringing a non-fiction book to market, so I make my mistakes with something in which I am less emotionally invested.
I’m hoping to get to where wonderful people can choose to hand over their money for The Terminus Of All Things, some time in November.
It has been a long road, and there’s more to come.
